Holidays in Romania

‘Casa Veche’ is a traditional Romanian fishermans house by Lake Somova in the Danube Delta area of Romania.

It has been improved to provide comfortable and clean holiday accommodation. The current price for one week is GBP200.

The house is ideal for those wanting an angling or birding holiday or to visit a unique environment.

As well as the Danube Delta, Romania has a range of attractions, many of which are relatively undiscovered.

We know Romania well and are certain that we can provide all the help and advice that you will need.

If you are on a tight budget our friends and contacts include local drivers, apartment owners and families that accommodate visitors in their homes. We know most of the places of interest in Romania and can advise on hotel locations etc.

We don’t include excursion prices on this website: Local taxi fares are cheaper than prices that many tour operators would charge west European visitors, and cutting out the middle man makes excursions cheaper.

We will be pleased to recommend itineraries based upon your requirements and provide an approximate price for any excursion before you visit. Using local taxi drivers also allows you to be more flexible in your arrangements.

We do not take any commissions from taxi drivers.

Some visitors to Romania have clear ideas of what they want to see and we offer a flexible service to support them.

In all cases, apart from the price of your stay at Casa Veche, payment can be made directly to the hotel, accommodation owner, driver etc. or through a website link that we can provide.

Most arrangements will be directly with Romanian companies, drivers etc. This provides better value for money and ensures that the benefits of tourism reach local people.

Suggestions for your visit:

1. Combine a visit to Somova with a short stay in Bucharest, taking in the Romanian Parliament building as well as the Village Museum. We can arrange hotel or apartment accommodation at Bucharest.

2. If you have time, you could take a day visit by car from Bucharest to Peles Castle (Prahova Valley) and Bran Castle Transylvania).

3. Why not enjoy a longer stay in the mountain area? Using Brasov as your base you could visit Peles, Bran and Sighisoara. For those interested in wildlife, excursions from Brasov could include Bear watching!

4. From time to time there are river cruise boats stopping at ports that are within reach of Somova. So visits can be combined with Vienna, Budapest Bratislava and Belgrade.

Flying to Romania from (for example) the UK is likely to involve an early departure or a late arrival at Bucharest. A Bucharest stop over is to be recommended.
